About Us
Our Story
The Path to Moving Meditation opens in August 2026 as a nonprofit organization that teaches meditative awareness while the body is in motion. It progressively trains movement professionals – over a series of levels – to access and lead moving meditation. Its future curriculum will extend to folks in the general public who like to keep the body in motion. They will learn how to Self Coach to move mindfully, at first, and then meditatively. The Path leads people to gain Self awareness and Self guidance as compassionate human beings who caretake themselves, their fellows, and the precious world we live in.
The Path to Moving Meditation evolved from the Academy of Mindful Movement company, from which adopts its curriculum for the Level 1 Mindful Movement Instructor training. In 2020 the Academy grew out of the realization that Mindful Movement precedes Moving Meditation. The Academy gave movement professionals across all disciplines access to specific techniques to teach their movement practices mindfully. Their training was a precursor to teaching moving meditation. Those mindful movement techniques empowered them to teach and coach with Continuity of Consciousness, Attention to Body Sensation, Joy, and NonViolence, resulting in greater Self Awareness.

The Academy held its first 40-hour Mindful Movement Instructor training online in 2021. Trainees learned to teach to the Whole Human Being: Body, Emotions, Mind and Self. As a result, their movement instruction became more mindful, present in the moment, safe, and joyous, and less judgmental, routinized, or domineering. Mindful Movement Instructors lead their students to move “from the inside out”.
The Academy went on to gain accreditation in 2023 to provide CEUs (Continuing Education Units) to trainees through IACET, as well as NASM and AFAA. After running 8 online trainings to trainees in countries and continents worldwide, the Academy offered its first in-person training in Honolulu, Hawai’i in January 2026.
The Academy’s roots grew out of Still & Moving Center, a vibrant hub in the middle of the Pacific, a brick and mortar movement studio in Honolulu, with the mission to “create a space for moving meditation”. There, teachers lead students in movement practices from around the world. Serving tens of thousands of students with many hundreds of teachers since 2011, Still & Moving has shone as a beacon, offering enlightened, student-centered movement classes and lively conversation circles on meaningful topics.
Grateful for all of the philosophical and spiritual training she has received on living responsibly and compassionately, as well as her somatic movement training through the Nia technique, the Path’s legacy founder Renée Tillotson wanted to share her insights as her teachers had shared with her and innumerable others. Renée successively founded Still & Moving Center, the Academy of Mindful Movement, and the Path to Moving Meditation – all with tremendous help of many caring and capable individuals. For the sake of sustainability far beyond her own long lifetime, Renée has also converted Still & Moving Center into the nonprofits Still & Moving Meditation Fellowship and also Still & Moving Community Center.
What the Academy started with Mindful Movement, the Path intends to carry much further with Moving Meditation. The Academy trained teachers for Still & Moving Center – as well as for the world at large. The Path to Moving Meditation will now train teachers for Still & Moving Community Center and leaders for Still & Moving Meditation Fellowship – as well as for future generations of the globe’s teachers and leaders. It will share what it means to be truly aware human beings, self-directing while also caring for others’ agency, living, moving, meditating, and thriving harmoniously.
“I have studied the teachings of and actually met wise beings in my lifetime who have attained exalted states of wisdom and compassion through meditation on high themes. Their particular brilliance has been to not only ascend to great heights of consciousness, but also to come back from these elevated states of awareness to bring their clarity, their vision, to the rest of us still struggling through life in this world. Let’s travel the path they point to!”
