Sacred Human Geometry

At 4:30 am yesterday, I woke my husband up: “I need you to film me talking about Sacred Human Geometry before the Uber gets here at 5:30 am.” I’d been dream-thinking about it all night long. We flipped on all the available lights in my mom’s house. Being a sport, Cliff kindly obliged, holding the camera as steady as he could before having his morning cup of joe to wake up. You can watch the results in this obviously home-made video I’ve attached at the bottom of this letter.

I am in love with this human body of ours. Are you?

We are living geometry in motion: the lines of our bones, the arcs of our moves, the complexity of our hand, foot and torso coordination – spinning, speeding, expanding, or deftly maneuvering through the spaces of our lives.

If you’re anything like me, you find yourself being amazed at what human bodies can do. No matter what the field of endeavor is, whether sports or artistic performance or surgery or culinary arts… or in any high level of expertise, we people are always self-surpassing. We do remarkable things with our bodies that we or maybe no one else has ever done before. And even if they have, it’s new and notable for us!

If you look at a relatively helpless newborn and compare their abilities to their sibling’s a couple years later, you’ll find them walking, talking, running, building block towers, catching bubbles, and feeding themselves – even if not quite all of it lands in their mouths! And that’s just the launch pad for the remarkable ways we train our bodies to move.

At the Academy of Mindful Movement, you learn – as coaches and instructors – how to attune your movers to the fine details of their body awareness. You gain techniques empowering them to move to the utmost of their safe edge. You also help them to appreciate and care for these precious bodies…
